From Fast Food eateries to formal dining establishments, food services and drinking places may be the world’s most widespread and familiar industry. The restaurant industry is unique in the labor market because it employs more people than any other private industry. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, the US restaurant industry -- and in particular the Fast Food/Quick Service Restaurant segment -- has the largest concentration of new entrants into the labor force and are the leading employers of teenagers, aged 16 through 19. Many teens first job is a summer job in fast food during their high school years, with many continuing on in the restaurant industry to help earn money to pay for college. In recent years Fast Food/Quick Service (QSR's) restaurants have also become employers of choice for seniors and retirees looking for extra income and the opportunity to still participate in the work force.
Fast Food is where the jobs are at!In today's challenging economic environment, Fast Food restaurants are also unique in that they are generally doing well even as other restaurant and food service segments experience decreasing sales. People still want to go out for a meal but are watching their wallets and as a result they are "trading down" from full service restaurants. Job -- and CAREER -- opportunities in Fast Food restaurants are plentiful for those with the right personality, work ethic and willingness to learn. About 2 out of 5 restaurant employees work part time, more than twice the proportion for all industries. This allows employees some flexibility in their work hours and allows them a greater opportunity to tailor work schedules to personal or family needs.
Consider a Management Career in the Fast Food IndustryA job in a fast food restaurant can be the start of a very financially rewarding and sound career if you decide to continue in the industry with a goal of becoming a restaurant manager. Studies by the National Restaurant Association indicate the number of foodservice managers is expected to increase more than 10 percent in the next 10 years. And best of all, the NRA also says that three out of five foodservice managers have household incomes of $50,000 or more. Along with lucrative salaries, most restaurant chains of any size also offer their managers some terrific benefits that can include medical, dental & life insurance; 401k plans; bonus programs; paid vacations; and MORE!!
